“A remarkable collaborator, and she’s a shiksa goddess and a trapeze artist, all of that. She can fix the truck. Expert on the African violet and all that. She’s outta this world. I don’t know what to say. I’m a lucky man. She has a remarkable imagination. And that’s the nation where I live. She’s bold, inventive and fearless. That’s who you wanna go in the woods with, right? Somebody who finishes your sentences for you.”

don’t know how to do this in a tweet or post or whatever, you know…

honor someone who gave so much as a friend, musician, father, activist, and artist.

Approaching all with that crazy Yauch focus, drive, compassion and humor.

Happy Birthday my brother. We miss you.

The Avalanches“Soca! Sirens! Brains!”

I assume that many of you are already acutely aware of the somewhat recent news that the Australian electronic collective’s second album is “basically finished”, and are searching for a way to satisfy your appetites while you wait for it to descend from the clouds, bathed in golden light. Fear not, I come to your aid. The band recently updated links on their website and youtube page to a large number of mixtapes and remixes that they’ve done over the past decade, all for free. The DJ set above is one of the best of the bunch, an hour and fifteen minute JAM and efforlessly mixes funk, reggae, calypso, hip-hop and Michael Jackson into a sunset-colored smoothie. In other words, just business as usual for The Avalanches. Check out the full list of mixes here, but beware, it will likely result in a compulsory re-listening of Since I Left You.
